Please follow posted directional signs as free parking is available in Lot 1 (preferred) or Lots 3 and 4 (overflow). Our staff will help you check in for our conference at the 2nd floor of the Johnson Student Center by scanning your Eventbrite ticket. We encourage you to arrive on time. Afterwards, mingle with other conference attendees as you enjoy coffee, tea, and pastries from Paradise Bakery (first come, first serve). A conference tote bag, notepad, pen, and other materials will also be provided to you.

Centering Black and Brown Joy, Not Trauma, Through Children's Books Presented by: Dr. Abigail Amoako Kayser & Dr. Brian Kayser, Cal State Fullerton Location: I-102 Join us for an enlightening teacher workshop where we explore the powerful potential of children's literature to center Black and Brown joy, steering away from narratives of trauma. In this interactive session, educators will discover strategies and resources for selecting and incorporating books that celebrate the vibrancy, resilience, and positivity within Black and Brown communities. Participants will engage in discussions, activities, and collaborative learning, leaving with practical insights to create a more inclusive and uplifting classroom environment for their students. This workshop is designed to empower educators to foster a sense of pride, connection, and cultural understanding among their students through the transformative medium of literature. (A)

Communication and Classroom Community Presented by: Alondra Diaz, Sycamore Magnet Academy Location: I-107 In this engaging session, we will learn about ways to motivate students to communicate with each other in a safe structured setting. A few strategies that will be presented are: lines of communication, mingle-mingle, and think-pair-share. At the core of this presentation is a focus on teacher-student and student-student relationships. This session will highlight the importance of oral language practice and how a positive classroom community can help engage students. This session embeds opportunities for educators to reflect on how they can promote equitable participation and inspire them to try new ways to hear every students’ voice, every day. (A)

Pandemic Impacts on Child Development: Identifying Developmental Red Flags and Next Steps Presented by: Ms. Yvette Nunez, Santa Ana College Location: I-203 This workshop explores the direct and indirect effects of the pandemic on child development, including providing an overview of developmental red flags and how to navigate connection to community resources. Would you like your classroom to be a safe haven for students to investigate and develop their own mindful practices whether in person or during distance learning? Visual Arts: Creativity Ready to be Tapped Presented by: Ms. Barbara Finnell, Cal State Fullerton Location: I-102 Come for an interactive workshop using bleeding tissue paper to create a mood on a page.
