What is SSTI?
The Summer Scholars Transfer Institute (SSTI) provides Santa Ana College students with the opportunity to complete an intensive UC transferable course through a hybrid model of instruction- students will meet as a class prior to the start of the 7-day residential component at UCI. The program is held at UC Irvine and coordinated by Santa Ana College/Santiago Canyon College faculty, counselors and staff.
Who is eligible to apply for the program?
Students participating in this program must be at least 18 years of age by May 31, 2024. Current SAC/SCC students who have completed 24 transferable units, English 101/ENGL 110 or equivalent, and a transferable math course by the end of Spring 2024. Have a minimum transferable GPA of 2.5 (Honors section requires a minimum GPA of 3.0)
How do I join the program?
Make sure you meet the priority eligibility requirements and submit a completed application by the priority deadline Friday, April 19, 2024. Eligible students are evaluated. If selected, you must attend a mandatory orientation on Friday, May 31, 2024 and first course lecture at Santa Ana College. Additional meetings will be required before the start of the program but you will be notified by your instructor on the dates/times.
What is the total cost of the program?
Students are responsible for paying the course fees, textbooks and class materials. Participants that successfully complete the program may be eligible for a $200 completion stipend.
Are the courses transferable?
Yes. All the courses are UC and CSU transferable with the exception of the Counseling 111 class, which is only a CSU transferable course. Student will only be allowed to enroll in one SSTI core class and all participants will be required to take CNSL 111. Please see your counselor to receive guidance on which class to select.
What is Counseling 111?
Counseling 111: Learning Skills Development is a one unit counseling course offered by Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College. Counseling 111 activities and assignments complement the SSTI program and curriculum.
What do I need to do before starting the program at UC Irvine?
Prior to starting the program, you need to attend the mandatory orientation meeting and the first day of class scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024. At that time, your instructor will provide the course syllabus, additional meeting dates/times and assignments you need to complete BEFORE going to UC Irvine on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Is transportation to UC Irvine provided?
Yes. Transportation will be provided. Students will meet at SAC/SCC and travel by bus to UC Irvine. More detailed information will be provided by your home campus program coordinator.
What will my schedule be like at UC Irvine?
During the seven days, students will have to follow a schedule that includes class, study time, eating breaks, and sleeping. Although students are in class for long periods of time, there will be free time for fun activities.
Are students allowed to leave or have visitors at the UC Irvine campus during the 10 days?
Students are expected to stay on campus at all times. Exceptions may be granted by request to the program administrator. For more questions, ask the SSTI Program Coordinator.
May I work or take other summer classes during SSTI?
Students will stay at UC Irvine for the entire seven days and will be engaged in intensive study which will require full attention and time. Please make arrangements in advance with regards to work, school and other personal commitments.
What's the COVID-19 vaccination policy at UCI?
