History Department Mission Statement
The mission of the History Department is to promote an appreciation, understanding, and respect for the history of the United States and all nations. Utilizing primary sources as a point of departure, students are expected to summarize, analyze, and interpret local, national and world events and to analyze social, political, cultural, and economic issues within, and across, nations. Students will analyze how such factors as gender, race, socio-economic position, and religious affiliation impact their personal and collective histories. Moreover, students will analyze how decisions made on a local, national and international level impact our daily lives. Lastly, students should be able to make informed decisions today based on their knowledge of past historical events.
