PAID INTERNSHIP
The Department of Labor requires that paid interns be compensated with at least minimum wage. Intern wages vary. Employers may consult with the college's internship coordinator and may research wage renders within their industry and geographic area.
UNPAID INTERNSHIP
Legal considerations are addressed through six criteria for unpaid interns, as articulated in the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Santa Ana College provides worker's compensation insurance for unpaid interns who are enrolled in a Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) course while completing their internship. Employers are advised to request that students provide proof of enrollment letter from the CWE office, which puts workers' compensation insurance in place for unpaid interns.
