Santa Ana College is in the process of migrating from  Blackboard to Canvas.

We will be running parallel Learning Management Systems, Blackboard and Canvas, beginning summer 2017.  We are planning a phased implementation of Canvas production for training and support purposes.  Though we have phases of Early-Adopters (Beta), Online/Hybrid and Classroom faculty, planned for certain semesters, faculty and their courses can slip into another semester if needed.  However, as of Summer 2018, all courses will be run on Canvas.

Fall 2017

Production: 265+ SAC sections are running on Canvas with 90 faculty adopters.
Only faculty that have notified the Distance Education Office should be running their courses in Canvas.

Training: ALL faculty should be training in Canvas this semester with the goal of USING CANVAS IN SPRING 2018.  The Canvas Bronze Training Badge is strongly suggested for all faculty.

Online/Hybrid: The SAC Online Teaching Certificate (OTC) is required to teach online/hybrid courses at Santa Ana College.  We utilize the Online Education Standards & Practices (OESP) for our curriculum.  Training is 12-weeks, 10 hours/week.  The SAC Canvas Silver Certificate is required to teach online/hybrid courses on Canvas and is an outcome of the current OTC. The SAC Canvas Silver Certificate rubric is used for evaluation.  Course Review of the SAC Canvas template, Canvas tools and Interactive tool usage is required for Online/Hybrid courses.

Suggested Approach:

1. Begin with the online/always available Online Self-Paced Canvas Training
   
2. Work on your training, or on your course, in the Open Lab!  Get your questions answered while you work!
3. Contact a local SAC Canvas Mentor!  You may have one in your department!
4. Canvas Questions?  Feel free to use the Canvas Hotline!  SAC is providing this toll-free 24/7 service for you!

Our Learning Management System evaluation of Canvas began in April 2015 and culminated in a RSCCD Board Approval in January 2017.
