(Santa Ana, CA) - The Santa Ana College Foundation continues its mission of ensuring no student is denied educational opportunities due to financial constraint through its annual Ed Arnold Golf Classic on Monday, May 6.
Held at the Mission Viejo Country Club, the event is presented by First American Financial Corporation. Some of the sponsors include Aitken Aitken Cohn, Cal Empire Engineering, Craig Realty Group, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Union Bank, Crevier Classic Cars LLC, Garden Grove Hospital, Citizens Business Bank, McCarthy Building Companies, and Facilities Planning and Program Services. It has grossed $1.16 million with a net of $670,000 over the past 15 years.
“We’re proud to present the annual Ed Arnold Golf Classic,” said Ken Purcell, Chairman of the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame. “This event has become one of our biggest fundraisers over the past 20 years and the monies we’ve raised have brought about positive changes among Santa Ana College student-athletes and within our SAC athletic programs. We believe this year’s event will continue to exceed participant expectations as we push forward to reach our fundraising goals.”
Over the past 10 years, funds raised from the Ed Arnold Golf Classic have provided student scholarships, equipment to sports programs, uniforms and facilities improvements to Santa Ana College totaling over $360,000. Improvements include the Sneddon Baseball Field scoreboard, gym scoreboard, icemaker for the training room, football and softball team uniforms, shoes for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, baseball and softball sound systems, banners and commemorative rings for championship teams and annual scholarships averaging $9,000 for student-athletes.
Proceeds from the 2019 Ed Arnold Golf Classic will support the continued development of the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame, Santa Ana College Athletic Department and provide scholarships for student-athletes transferring to universities.
The Mission Viejo Country Club is at 26200 Country Club Dr. in Mission Viejo. The tournament begins with a putting contest and lunch at 10:00 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m., cocktail hour at 4:00 p.m. and awards dinner hosted by Ed Arnold at 6:00 p.m.
