(Santa Ana, CA) - On Friday, April 26, Santa Ana College (SAC) students participated in a comprehensive, professional development training seminar that offered insights into the unwritten rules that college students need to know before graduating and entering the workforce. The seminar was sponsored by the SAC Foundation and SAC's Student Leadership Institute.
Conducted by KL Image Group, the all-day, three-module seminar addressed such areas as Assertiveness & Conflict Resolution, Body Language, and Business Attire with the goal of helping SAC students more easily transition between textbook knowledge and workplace survival skills.
“The fact is, while 87% of college graduates believe they are prepared for the workplace, only 50% of employers share that view,” said K.L. Moore, MBA, KL Image Group. “The key to this seminar is addressing the tough issues students don’t even know to ask about – before they enter the increasingly competitive and demanding workforce.”
“Colleges often overlook the importance of teaching students the soft skills they need to not only be successful in the workforce, but to be successful in life,” said Linda Rose, Ed.D., president, Santa Ana College. “This seminar truly takes a holistic approach to best preparing the student for success – both in the classroom and in the workforce.”
“This is the second time I participated in the seminar,” stated SAC sophomore Alexis Figueroa who will be attending California State University, Fullerton this fall on a full scholarship. “For me, understanding and utilizing the techniques I learned - offering a firm handshake, dressing in professional attire, and portraying confident body language, to name a few - have paid off and have given me a distinct advantage.”
