Musical Depiction of Lions, Elephants, Kangaroos, and More Will Be Accompanied by Whimsical Poetry of Ogden Nash
(Santa Ana, Calif). –The Santa Ana College Chamber Orchestra will present Camille Saint-Saëns' The Carnival of the Animals, a fantastic musical depiction of lions, elephants, tortoises, kangaroos, and more on Thursday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m.
Concert narration, featuring the whimsical poetry of Ogden Nash, will be provided by Dr. Annebelle Nery, president of Santa Ana College (SAC).
“I am thrilled to join the chamber orchestra and so many talented musicians from the community to present this work," Nery said. “It isn't often that a college president gets to narrate a concert, so this is very exciting for me."
“This special concert is a festive and entertaining musical flight of fancy that features four pianists performing along with the orchestra," said Brian Kehlenbach, SAC professor of music. Kehlenbach's new piece Pax Vobiscum (Peace Be With You) for Cello and Piano will also be featured during the program, along with Chopin's Piano Concerto #1, Mvt. 1, performed by faculty member Jungwon Jin.
The December 1 concert is presented in collaboration with the Santa Ana College Foundation along with members of the Santa Ana High School Orchestra and musicians from the Orange County community. The concert is directed by Joseph Kaye and it will take place in Phillips Hall on the campus of Santa Ana College at 1530 W. 17th St., Santa Ana.
General admission tickets are $15; students and seniors are $10, and children ages 5-14 are $5. VIP tickets, which include a donation to the Friends of SAC Music, are $50 per person. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit: https://tinyurl.com/476mfn9t.
