SAC’s Puente Program Helps Elevate Students’ Academic Goals
With innovative academic support, counseling and mentoring, transferring to a four-year college or university is within reach.
Imagine being part of a small learning community focused on counseling and English, where you get to take part in off-campus cultural enrichment and transfer-related activities while receiving specialized academic support and mentoring to help you successfully transfer to a four-year college or university.
If this sounds like the college environment you need to elevate and achieve your educational goals, the Puente Program at Santa Ana College is right for you.
Since 1984, Puente at SAC has helped students become strong university transfer applicants, through innovative academic support, counseling and mentoring. SAC's Puente program is part of the statewide Puente Project sponsored by the California Community Colleges and the University of California to improve transfer rates for students from diverse backgrounds.
At SAC, Puente accepts 28 students into a cohort each Fall. Over the academic year, the cohort moves through selected courses together, building collaboration and leadership skills that are favorable on university transfer applications.
Here's what current SAC students have to say about Puente:
| “The Puente Program has shaped my educational and professional goals in terms of trying harder in classes and by asking for help when I need it. I have learned that there is a community of Puentistas supporting us."
Nancy Alfaro, 27, Santa Ana |
| “I enrolled in Puente because they saw potential in me. I have learned that if you want something, whether education or career, you can achieve it by committing yourself to it. The Puente Program made me realize that whatever university I want to attend, I can, as long as I commit to it." Louis Correa, 22, Santa Ana |
| “I enrolled in Puente because I wanted to build bridges with counselors and take the opportunity to have support throughout my time here at SAC. I've learned how to take up a leadership role, as well as time-management skills. The Puente Program has shaped my educational and professional goals in such a positive way. It's helped me make a plan for the near future as well as provide readiness." Kaddy Moreno, 18, Santa Ana |
