While Pride Month officially launches in June, our campus began celebrating in May (before the Spring semester concluded), with events that included Open Mic Night and movie screenings. Upward Bound Student Featured in Voice of OC SAC hosts a number of programs designed to inspire K-12 students to pursue higher education, including
Upward Bound, a college preparatory program that provides eligible high school students rigorous academic support and guidance toward a post-secondary education. Stephania Sanchez, a student at Valley High School, was invited to join the program in early 2021. Sanchez's experience moved her to pen an opinion piece in the local publication,
Voice of OC, writing in part, “Without this program, many Santa Ana students wouldn't have the ongoing assistance and encouragement to be ready and successful through their education after high school. Nor would we have a variety of opportunities for academic enrichment like this online reading club."

Californians Invited to Define Their Communities Through Redistricting Every 10 years, after the federal government publishes updated census information, California must redraw the boundaries of its Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly and State Board of Equalization districts, so that the districts correctly reflect the state's population. SAC'S Civic Engagement Committee is working with the California Citizens Redistricting Commission to examine best processes to educate our students, staff, and community about the redistricting process.
