The roles and duties performed by a library technician vary from library to library. Those employed in larger libraries may find themselves working alongside a librarian in a more specialized environment overseeing the daily operations of a library department and performing specific duties such as acquisitions, cataloging, circulation services, interlibrary loans, periodicals maintenance, children's services, government documents maintenance, special collections work, etc. Library technicians working in smaller libraries may handle a wide range of duties and may, depending on the situation, be the person to run many or all of the operations of a library.
