SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana College is pleased to present One Artist Five Oceans, a solo exhibition of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Danielle Eubank. This exhibition will open on Saturday, February 12, with an Artist Talk from 2-3pm, followed by an Artist Reception from 3-5pm. This exhibition will be on view in the Main Gallery until April 7, 2022.
Danielle Eubank is widely known as one of the foremost painters of water and a true expert on her subject. She has spent the last 20 years exploring, observing and painting the water of every ocean on Earth. Her most recent expedition took her to Antarctica to study the Southern Ocean. One Artist Five Oceans is a series of large paintings of that push into thoughts of abstraction and introspection while exploring the personality of water of all five of Earth's oceans. In her newest works, organic shapes dance across the canvas in hues of blue, orange, pink, and purple.
“The great thing about water is that it's organic. What we see in it is abstract. I can create all kinds of shapes that please me and colors that please me to pursue abstract ideas and emotions. And yet I can mold it to make it look like water which is highly evocative for everyone because we all have experiences and memories with water." Danielle Eubank.
“Santa Ana College is honored to have Danielle Eubank exhibit work from her 'One Artist Five Oceans'. As a learning institution it is important that we showcase work from artists that can share in the learning of our students. Eubank's take on the oceans is unique and colorful, all while bringing climate change to the forefront of the conversation." Phil Marquez, Gallery Director.
Eubank earned her master's in Fine Art at University of California Los Angeles and has lectured at conferences and universities worldwide in Japan, Korea, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Mexico, United States, Spain, Syria and Italy. From 2011-2014, she painted the Henley Royal Regatta, in Henley-on-Thames, England. In 2012, a documentary film about her work, Mozambique VI, premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival. In 2014-2015, she was a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. In 2018, she was a Creative Climate Award nominee and the awardee of the WCA/United Nations Program Honor Roll Award in 2019. Eubank exhibits widely in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, where she is an active member of the arts community and works to facilitate public conversations about water and climate issues.
