Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grant

Student Guide: Financial Aid from the U.S. Department of Education

A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Generally, Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. For many students, Pell Grants provide a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may be added.

What is the maximum Pell Grant amount that I can get?

The maximum amount varies from year to year depending on the congressional budget.

  • For 2021-2022 award year, the maximum Pell grant award is $6,495 (July 1, 2021 , to June 30, 2022)
  • For 2022-2023 award year, the maximum Pell grant award is $6,495 ( July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023)
Your award amount will depend on your financial need, cost of attendance, and enrollment status.

How do I know if I am eligible?

Once we have determined that you’ve completed the application process and submitted all required documents, your Pell Grant will be determined according to Federal mandates. You will receive an Award Letter indicating the amount awarded.

How will I get the Pell Grant money?

At Rancho Santiago Community College District, Pell Grant is disbursed twice each semester – 1st disbursement is at the beginning of the semester and 2nd disbursement is at the midpoint of the semester (2nd disbursement will be recalculated based on the midpoint enrollment status). For details information, please refer to the District’s disbursement policies by clicking on the following link: RSCCD's Disbursement Policy
