What is Civic Engagement?
Civic engagement is the active participation of students in the democratic process and their communities. For college students, civic engagement means learning about civic responsibilities, staying informed on local, state, and national issues, and taking part in activities that strengthen democracy and community well-being.
At Santa Ana College, civic engagement includes voter education and registration, participation in civic dialogue and outreach events, leadership development, and community involvement. Students are encouraged to engage in these activities in a respectful, informed, and nonpartisan manner while adhering to the SAC Standards of Student Conduct and other applicable college policies.
In accordance with the California Student Civic and Voter Empowerment Act, Santa Ana College is committed to providing students with timely, accurate information about elections, voter registration opportunities, and ways to participate in civic life. Through campus programming, outreach events, and collaboration with students, faculty, and staff, civic engagement empowers students to make their voices heard and to contribute meaningfully to a healthy and inclusive democracy.
