Distinguished Faculty of the Year
Meet our 2026-2027 Distinguished Faculty

Dr. Osiel R. Madrigal
Career Education Faculty Coordinator & Department Chair
Dr. Osiel Madrigal, affectionately known as “Ozzie” or “Dr. M” to his students and colleagues, first joined Santa Ana College’s School of Continuing Education as an adjunct faculty member in March 2011. In fall 2016, he was hired as Assistant Professor and Workforce Development Coordinator and has since served as Career Education Faculty Coordinator and Department Chair.
Under his leadership, the Career Education Department experienced remarkable growth. When Dr. Madrigal joined the department, students had six certificate options. Today, that number has grown to 37 Certificate Programs spanning 11 vocational departments, supported by a team of four full-time faculty members and five adjunct faculty coordinators. His entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative approach have led to nearly $3 million in grants from local, state, and federal organizations, fueling the development and expansion of noncredit career training pathways.
Dr. Madrigal is a true champion of student success. He developed the Career Education Department’s mission statement, which reads: “The Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education Career Education Department is committed to developing students to be today’s and tomorrow’s workforce leaders by honoring and strengthening the knowledge and skills they already possess, while they concurrently learn new ones, so they can succeed in their careers and in life.” His words describe the resiliency of adult students while celebrating the accomplishments they set for themselves. This mission statement will serve as a legacy of Dr. Madrigal’s innovation and commitment to education.
His roots in this community run deep. Raised in “Santana,” he has dedicated his career to serving underserved populations across virtually every major public agency in Santa Ana, the local K–12 school district, and the L.A. Mayor’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development Office. He humbly insists he has learned far more from the communities he serves than they have from him, believing deeply that everyone you meet in life is a teacher.
In 2013, Dr. Madrigal founded the M.A.S. Scholarship, named in honor of his parents, to support college-bound seniors at his alma mater, Century High School. To date, over $13,000 has been awarded. He strives to be an agent of change, giving others the opportunity to succeed, whether it is their first chance or their umpteenth.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Madrigal loves God, his partner Almas, his son Milo, his daughter Charli, and his entire family. He shares his passion for sports with them and is a self-described “HUGE” fan of the NFL’s Washington Commanders. He enjoys music of all genres, great food, movies, travel, and getting his “swole on” through strength training and boxing.
