Spouse and Dependents Information
SURVIVORS AND DEPENDENTS ASSISTANCE
There are two main GI Bill® programs offering education assistance to survivors and dependents of Veterans:

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) is currently available for children of those who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001. Beginning January 1, 2015, Fry Scholarship will also be available for surviving spouses of those who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001.

The Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) Program (Chapter 35) offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

Additional notes regarding eligibility for transferability of education benefits include:

Not barred for reenlistment or flagged due to adverse personnel actions.

Have at least 6 years of service on the date of request.

Have completed a minimum of six years in the armed forces and agree to serve another four years from the date of request, or
-
Have at least 10 years of service on the date of election and not able to commit four more years due to a retention-control point or mandatory retirement date, and commit to serve for the maximum time allowed by either the Retention Control Point or the MRD as the date of request, or
-
Have served at least 20 years on or before Aug. 1, 2009, therefore, no additional service required.
THE CALVET DEPENDENT COLLEGE FEE WAIVER
Eligibility Letters can be submitted at the VRC and Financial Aid Office. It is ultimately
sent to the Financial Aid Office for processing, NOT the Veterans Resource Center.

MyCAA Program
Due to a lack in staffing, SAC has not and is currently not participating in the MyCAA program.
