APIDA Heritage Month

Santa Ana College proudly celebrates Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month as a time to honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of APIDA communities.
Nationally, APIDA Heritage Month is recognized in May. The month was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869, made possible in part by the labor of Chinese workers. At Santa Ana College, we celebrate from mid-April through mid-May to create more time and space for our campus community to come together through events, learning, and celebration.
APIDA Heritage Month is a chance to recognize the achievements, resilience, and lasting impact of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American communities. It is also a time to uplift stories, celebrate culture, and reflect on the many ways APIDA communities continue to shape our campus, our neighborhoods, and our shared future.
We invite you to explore, learn, and join us in celebrating throughout the month.
