    ​Program Overview

    The Vocational Construction Technology program, in collaboration with the LA/OC Building and Construction Trades Council, is an Apprenticeship Readiness program. It provides a gateway for people of all backgrounds to gain access to North America’s Building Trade Union (NABTU) registered apprenticeship program. The program teaches NABTU’s nationally recognized Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). The program is designed to help adults choose and succeed in apprenticeship programs that are appropriate for them.  This program is not 100% hands-on training but still prepares someone to obtain a union apprenticeship. 

    Program Length:
    The program is 10 weeks. Classes are held Monday thru Thursday from 5-9pm.

    Program Details:
    ​- Learn how to safely use power tools and participate in hands-on projects
    - Strengthen basic math skills (A very important skill needed for the construction profession.)
    - Complete First Aid, CPR and OSHA-10 Training
    - Learn about the variety of construction trades through guest speakers and organized field trips
    - Learn about the history of the construction unions
    - Build skills to help you find work including the basics of resume writing, interviewing, and networking

    Plus, learn and connect with union, industry and labor leaders! 


    Participation Requirements
    • 18+ years or older
      A minimum 7th grade English & Math literacy
      ​Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
      Ability to pass a drug test
      ​Valid Driver's License 
      High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (Individuals who don't have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, must be co-enrolled in such a program while they participate in the construction program.)​

    Course Requirements
    Students must complete ALL the following courses:
    VCNST 610 - Vocational Construction Technology Module 1
    VCNST 620 - Vocational Construction Technology Module 1
    VBUS 400 - Employability Skills
    VBUS 340 - Career Exploration


    ​Fall Cohort Dates:

    The orientation for the fall cohort will take place on September 9th from 8AM to 1PM. 

    The cohort will run from October 2nd through December 14th, 2023.
