These courses prepare you for Santa Ana College's Welding Technology Program. Get
prepared for entry-level employment in the welding technology field.
You will learn shop safety, the proper use of tools and equipment. Practice various
welding processes used in the welding and metal fabrication industry. Processes include
Oxy-fuel cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW),
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
Students must pass the following course:
- VCNST 101: Introduction to Welding
Students must also pass one of the following courses:
- VBUS 243: Introduction to Customer Service Skill
- VBUS 400: Employability Skills (VBUS400)
- ESL 520: English for Work 2
- HSMTH 190: Math for College and Career Readiness*
*You must first meet with a counselor before enrolling in HSMTH 190.
If you pass VCNST 101 with a grade of B or higher, you can earn credit for WELD 101
Introduction to Welding through the credit-by-exam process. Credits from VCNST 101
can count towards a welding technology certificate or degree at Santa Ana College.
There is no tuition cost for VCNST 101.
Students must meet with the Continuing Education Counseling Department before enrollment
in this certificate.
