(Santa Ana, Calif) –– On March 28, 2025, Santa Ana College (SAC) will host it's 31st annual KinderCaminata, a college readiness and youth empowerment program that brings nearly 1,000 kindergartners from Santa Ana and Garden Grove Unified School Districts and several charter schools to visit the community college. The children, along with their teachers, will experience interactive activities, exhibits and other entertainment to learn about various career opportunities made possible through college education.
“Santa Ana College is proud to continue this annual tradition of inviting future collegians to our campus and inspiring them to reach for higher education," said Dr. Annebelle Nery, SAC president. “We hope the Class of 2037 will enjoy their visit to our campus and see themselves in college in 12 years."
This event is traditionally held near or on the birth date of Cesar Chavez (e.g., March 31), the renowned National Farm Workers leader and civil rights activist. Santa Ana College, in collaboration with community partners, aims to provide a fun and interactive experience for their young visitors. Through Kindercaminata, young students are introduced to the idea of attending college, which fosters excitement about their future educational opportunities. KinderCaminata will give students from the high school graduating class of 2037 engaging, hands-on exhibits and demonstrations to explore their future college and career paths. The kindergarten students will participate in a “¡Sí, se puede!” march across campus to encourage them to believe they can achieve their goals. The march will be led by Grand Marshall Daisy Tong, President of the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees.
"KinderCaminata is a powerful event that helps plant the seeds of higher education in the minds of our youngest learners," said Santa Ana Unified School District Superintendent Jerry Almendarez. "By giving kindergartners the opportunity to explore a college campus and engage in hands-on learning experiences, we are helping them envision a future filled with possibilities. Santa Ana Unified School District is proud to partner with Santa Ana College in inspiring the next generation of students to dream big and pursue academic success."
The event will feature:
Career fair to introduce students to a variety of career opportunities spanning from nursing, library science, art, theater, history and much more.
March around campus to celebrate community and empowerment.
