ALUMNI PROFILE Doug
Davert, Attorney
After struggling a bit as a freshman at Cal
State Fullerton, Doug Davert made the switch to Santa Ana College
and found his route to success as a political science and legal
major. He has since gone on to a very successful career as an
attorney with a strong commitment to community involvement.
Doug was very familiar with the campus because his mother
taught English and education at SAC for some 30 years. He remembers
attending numerous basketball and football games as a kid growing up
in nearby Tustin.
While at SAC, Doug particularly remembers
the role played by his criminal justice professor, George Wright,
who he subsequently studied under again at Chapman University where
he transferred after graduating from Santa Ana College in 1985. Doug
went on to earn his law degree at Loyola Law School.
"At
Santa Ana College, I found an environment that enabled me to
overcome a false start at college," Doug observed. "And Professor
Wright helped me get my act together and onto the right path for a
career in law. A lot of people simply aren't ready for the four-year
college experience right out of high school. Santa Ana College is a
great place to cut your teeth and decide what you truly want to do."
Doug is now a partner in the law firm of Davert & Loe,
which specializes in real estate, land use and business matters. He
also has been and continues to be highly active in his community and
profession. A Tustin resident since 1968, with a wife and two
daughters, Doug has served as mayor and is currently a member of the
City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and Senior Center Fund. He was
also a member, vice-chairman and chairman of the Tustin Planning
Commission and involved with the Old Town Association, Council for
Fine Arts, Pride Committee, Community Block Grants program,
Community Foundation, and Public Schools Foundation. Plus, he is a
graduate of the Tustin Police Department's Citizens Police Academy.
On the county level, Doug is a director of the Sanitation
District, Fire Authority, and Airport Land Use Commission. He is
also a board member of the California Identification Remote Access
Network and volunteers with the Professional Service Reserve of the
Sheriff's Department.
And that's not all. Doug has been
active in the League of California Cities, the Southern California
Association of Governments and the United States Conference of
Mayors. He is a judge pro-tem in the Long Beach/Los Angeles Superior
Courts and has been a judge for the moot court competition at
Chapman University School of Law.
Doug is a prime example of
the vital role Santa Ana College has played in the lives of so many
people as they found their way to personal and professional success.
