Annual Golf Outing Generates Funds
and Recognition
This year's
Ed Arnold Golf Classic held in late May at SeaCliff Country Club
raised $52,500 for the benefit of the Santa Ana College Athletic
Hall of Fame and student-athlete scholarships. The total marked a
nearly 15% increase on proceeds over 2006's tally of $46,000.
Following a great day of golf on a beautiful course, attendees
gathered for dinner, a live auction, tournament awards, and the
announcement of athletic scholarships and Athletic Hall of Fame
Inductees.
Members of the Athletic Hall of Fame have
distinguished themselves among the thousands of student-athletes and
hundreds of coaches who have excelled at Santa Ana College and who
epitomize the college's athletic legacy. The 2007 Male
Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor went to Matt Dufour for his
accomplishments in baseball, while women's basketball player Whitney
Ligon was named 2007 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In
addition, 2007 Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipients were Esther
Aceves (soccer), Matt Dufour (baseball), Ryan Giertych (baseball)
and Vanessa Hardway (softball).
The Santa Ana College
Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2003 as an affiliate of the
Santa Ana College Foundation to celebrate, recognize and honor the
accomplishments of individuals who have made significant
contributions as a student-athlete, coach or friend to the rich
tradition of the Santa Ana College athletic program. It is also
dedicated to preserving the college's athletic history while
providing new opportunities to transferring student-athletes through
scholarships.
