El Don Receives National Award
What’s In a word? On Saturday November.1, el Don, the
Santa Ana College newsletter, was officially inducted
into The Associated Collegiate Press College Journalism
Hall of Fame, the pinnacle of national recognition for
college journalism, at the ACP/CMA National College
Media Convention in Kansas City. The el Don was the only
college honored this year, and several staff members
were on-hand to receive the award and participate in the
conference, thanks to support from the Santa Ana College
Foundation.
Also, former el Don news editor Martin Syjuco won the
National College Writer of the Year Award for his
writing and reporting on campus news. Martin also
received a $500 check, which he can put to good use at
Chapman University where he is now a student, according
to Sylvia Turner, Dean, Fine and Performing Arts..
In addition, the California Newspaper Publishers
Association named el Don as its First Place General
Excellence Winner in the Two-Year College category at
its annual Better Newspapers Contest. This marks the 7th
consecutive year that Santa Ana College Journalism has
received award.
