Tee ’em Up at 2008 Ed Arnold Golf Classic

What easier way could you find to support Santa Ana College than by spending a day on the beautiful greens of the SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach? All golfers are welcome to participate in the May 19, 2008 Ed Arnold Golf Classic, which raises funds to build and maintain an Athletic Hall of Fame at Santa Ana College, as well as award student athlete scholarships.

Each year since 1998, there has been a golf tournament to support the SAC Athletic Hall of Fame. Well-known television broadcaster and SAC alumnus Ed Arnold has allowed the use of his name since 2003. The Ed Arnold Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Tournament generally fields 144 participants, both male and female. Many businesses in the area give their support. This year First American Corporation is the presenting sponsor, while Citizens Business Bank is sponsoring the dinner. Other sponsorships are still available, including sponsors for carts, lunch, gifts, photography, the 19th hole and contests.

The cost for each golfer is $250. This includes a round of golf, green fees, golf cart, range balls, on course refreshments, tee favors, lunch and dinner.

SAC began giving student athletic scholarships at the tournament banquet in 2004. Two female student athletes and two male student athletes receive $1,500 each. The amount generated by the tournament has increased each year, last year raising more than $52,000. This money goes toward recognition and induction of Hall of Fame members, scholarships, and savings toward building a permanent Hall of Fame Display. Currently the display is in the foyer of Cook gym.

“The tournament is a joint endeavor of faculty, staff, alumni, business and community friends of Santa Ana College,” says Dean of Exercise Science Avie Bridges. “The Exercise Science Division is very grateful for the tremendous amount of support this event receives. It gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to students and staff who have distinguished themselves, and to recognize and assist our current transferring students with academic scholarships.”
