About
Rosa Garcia is the recipient of the Donald McKayle Medal Scholar. At UCI, she earned
her M.F.A. in Dance with an emphasis in Choreography and at CSU, Long Beach received
her B.A. in Dance. She also attended the Alvin Ailey American Dance School in New
York on a scholarship. Her passion is teaching dance and has been on the journey
in becoming an eclectic teacher for over 15 years. At Santa Ana College, Mrs. Garcia
teaches Ballet, World Dance & Cultures and Introduction to Dance Forms, a class of
ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, Mexican Folk, Flamenco and Latin Social Dance.
For the past 10 years, Mrs. Garcia has developed and helped develop dance programs
for various community colleges and non-profit organizations such as St. Joseph's Ballet,
Academy of International Dance, Delhi Community Center and the Orange County Children's
Therapeutic Arts Center (OCCTAC). She helps bring in college dance majors to teach
and be involved in the community through dance including choreographing for Quinceañera
(Sweet 15 birthday) events.
Rosa has taught at the Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA), UCI and Chapman
University. Mrs. Garcia has performed at the Irvine Barclay Theater, Orange County
Performing Arts Center, Bowers Museum, Museum of Latin American Art, Luckman Theater,
San Juan Capistrano Mission with well received companies such as Danza Floricanto/USA,
Ballet Folklorico Mexicanisimo, Loretta Livingston & Dancers, Dream Dance Contemporary
Dance, South Bay Latin Dance Ensemble and currently with Ek'Balam Mayan Ensemble with
musician Martin Espino.
She is a judge & consultant in the Open Category of the USA National Folklorico Dance
Competitions enhancing fusion of Modern dance and Ballet with Mexican Folk dance.
