Common Course Numbering (CCN)
What is Common Course Numbering?
A statewide system that assigns the same numbers, titles, and descriptions to similar courses across all California Community Colleges.
The goal is to make it easier for students to transfer credits between colleges, avoid taking unnecessary credits, and make informed course selections that support degree completion and meet transfer requirements.
When will this change go into effect?
There are currently 3 Phases of CCN Implementation. Phase 1 implementation will begin in Fall 2025, Phase 2 in Fall 2026, and Phase 3 in Fall 2027.
Beginning in Fall 2025, course numbers and titles will be changing for many of the most popular transfer courses. When searching and registering for courses, you may need to look in the schedule under a different subject abbreviation or title (see chart below).
What SAC courses will be impacted during the CCN Phase 1 implementation?
Does this affect previously completed coursework?
The chart below provides a list of the current and new course prefixes, numbers, and titles based on the CCN system. If you have any questions, please meet with a counselor at Santa Ana College.
