Santa Ana College Invites Nominations For Alumni Hall of Fame Awards
Nominations Due June 28, Ceremony in October
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Know an alumnus of Santa Ana College (SAC) who has achieved success in their education, career or community service? Santa Ana College Foundation invites you to nominate them for recognition in the Santa Ana College Hall of Fame.
Nominations for the 2024 Hall of Fame Alumni Achievement Awards are due June 28 and recipients will be honored at a ceremony in October.
“For almost 70 years, Santa Ana College has honored its outstanding alumni from all walks of life, recognizing their contributions to our community and our economy, as well as their success in business, the arts, law, science, technology, media, medicine, finance, real estate and so much more," said Dr. Annebelle Nery, President of SAC. “From the first ceremony in 1955 to today, our Hall of Fame inductees are a shining example of what can be achieved with a college education that starts here at SAC."
The 2024 Hall of Fame Alumni Achievement Awards will mark the first new inductees since 2020, when the awards were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 inductees were finally honored in 2022 at an on-campus ceremony. They included Vera Jimenez, KTLA meteorologist (Class of 1998), and Jim Steiner, retired firefighter and current Vice Mayor of Corona, CA (Class of 1985).
This year, organizers are looking for the best and brightest SAC alumni who have achieved notable success to join past honorees.
“We invite nominations on behalf of our many worthy Santa Ana College alumni," said Kristin Crellin, President of the Santa Ana College Foundation Board of Directors. “We are proud to recognize and honor the high-achieving members of our alumni family who are leaders in business, philanthropy, education and community service."
Criteria for nomination includes: Graduation from Santa Ana College or completion of a minimum of 30 units of coursework and documentation reflecting and supporting the specific distinction and achievement that the candidate has made in their professional and/or personal efforts since leaving SAC. The proposed recipient must be available to attend the October awards ceremony and SAC's commencement in June. “With pandemic-era closures in our rear-view mirror, we are so proud to bring back our annual Hall of Fame celebration, knowing how many worthy SAC alumni are doing great things in our community," Crellin said. “With that in mind, we invite you to nominate your neighbor, your coworker or a colleague you admire to be among our next Santa Ana College Hall of Fame inductees."
The Santa Ana College (SAC) Foundation was established to maintain, expand and enhance educational opportunities for all, helping to raise funds for the urgent action needs of students and build capacity for high-impact programs at SAC. Many SAC alumni support the Foundation's initiatives, including the current $6 million Raising the Game campaign, which will provide academic and professional resources for students at the college.
“Alumni are the backbone of our success story at SAC and give credence to our academic mission," Crellin said. “They fuel our philanthropic giving and honoring them in the Hall of Fame is a way to shine a light on their success, which began right here on our campus."
Founded in 1915, SAC is the second-oldest community college in Orange County and today serves more 54,600 students yearly. It was recently ranked as one of the nation's top two-year colleges awarding associate degrees to Latino and Asian students and named one of the best community colleges in California by Intelligent.com.
