POLITICAL SCIENCE 101 - INTRODUCTION TO AMERICAN GOVERNMENT
A basic introductory study of United States federal government and California state and local governments. This course satisfies graduation requirements for American institutions and state requirements for California state government.

Political Science 101 is designed to achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes:

Civic Participation - Students will demonstrate a general understanding of the American political system as well as the theoretical and operational design of American government institutions at the federal and state level.

Critical Thinking - Students will evaluate the democratic nature of American governmental institutions using standards of popular sovereignty, political equality, and liberty.
3.
Diversity - Students will identify and explain contrasting views on the role of government, the virtues and vices of democratic decision making, and the balance of executive, legislative, and judicial power.
POLITICAL SCIENCE 200 - AMERICAN POLITICAL THOUGHT
A general inquiry into the major influences that have shaped current American political thought.

1. Civic Participation - Students will demonstrate a general understanding of the theoretical foundations of the American political system and its emphasis on liberty, equality, sovereignty, and deliberation.
2. Thinking and Reasoning - Students will evaluate the democratic nature of American governmental institutions using standards of popular sovereignty, political equality, and liberty.
3. Diversity - Students will identify and explain contrasting views on the role of government, the virtues and vices of democratic decision making, and the balance of executive, legislative, and judicial power.
POLITICAL SCIENCE 201- INTRODUCTION TO COMPARATIVE POLITICS
This course examines the histories, political cultures, and governmental arrangements of various nations and regions around the world. Major areas of focus will be the European democracies, the former and current communist countries, and developing nations such as Mexico, Brazil, China, and India.

Political Science 201 is designed to achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes:

Civic Participation - Students will demonstrate a general understanding of different political systems as well as the theoretical and operational design of government institutions throughout the world.
2.
Critical Thinking - Students will analyze the democratic nature of American governmental institutions and compare the U.S. to other foreign governments.
3.
Diversity - Students will identify and explain contrasting views throughout the world on the role of government, the virtues and vices of democratic decision making, and the balance of executive, legislative, and judicial power.
POLITICAL SCIENCE 220 - INTERNATIONAL POLITICS
This course provides an introduction to the principles and issues of international politics, such as security, terrorism, globalization, and the causes of war and peace.

Political Science 220 is designed to achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Civic Participation - Students will demonstrate a general understanding of different political systems, the theoretical and operational design of government institutions throughout the world, and the causes for war and peace.
2. Thinking and Reasoning - Students will demonstrate a general knowledge of contrasting views on why war and peace occur.
3. Diversity - Students will identify and explain contrasting views on the role of government, why wars occur, and what conditions must exist for peaceful conflict resolution.
POLITICAL SCIENCE 235 - IDENTITY POLITICS
This course provides an inquiry into the history of racial/ethnic minority groups in American politics. The course emphasizes the political behavior of different ethnic minority groups along with an examination into the different political coalitions among various ethnic groups in contemporary American politics.

Political Science 235 is designed to achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Civic Participation - Students will demonstrate a general understanding of different ethnic groups and the causes for their political behavior.
2. Thinking and Reasoning - Students will analyze the histories of different ethnic groups and analyze how those histories affect contemporary political behavior.
3. Diversity - Students will compare and contrast the political histories of different ethnic groups in American politics.
