​Baking & Pastry​​​​​ Tier 1 Overview:​​​

Overview​​
This program teaches the fundamentals of baking and pastry techniques. It prepares students for a career in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, or a home business. Learn a broad range of topics ranging from bread, pastries, and cakes and decoration. Get ready for the ServSafe® Food Handler Exam. This certification is highly sought after by employers in the industry.


Course Requirements
Students must pass TWO of the following courses:
VFOOD212 - Baking & Pastry Basics
VFOOD214 - Introduction to Bread Making
VFOOD216 - Introduction to Cakes and Decorating

Students must pass the following course:
VFOOD005 - ServSafe® Food Handler

Students must pass ONE of the following three courses:
VBUS400 - Employability Skills 
HSMTH 190 - Math for College and Career Readiness
​ESL520 - ESL English for Work 2

​These courses prepare students to transition to Santa Ana College's Culinary Arts program. Get hands-on training in fundamentals of baking and pastry techniques. Prepare for a career in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, or a home business. Learn to bake for commercial production and prepare bread, pastries, cakes, and decorations. Get ready for the ServSafe®​ Food Handler Exam. This certification is highly sought after by employers in the industry.​


Course Requirements
Students must pass TWO of the following courses:
VFOOD212 - Baking & Pastry Basics
VFOOD214 - Introduction to Bread Making
VFOOD216 - Introduction to Cakes and Decorating

Students must pass the following courses:
VFOOD005 - ServSafe® Food Handler
VFOOD 220 - Introduction to Baking & Pastry​

Students must pass ONE of the following three courses:
VBUS400 - Employability Skills 
HSMTH 190 - Math for College and Career Readiness
​​ESL520 - ESL English for Work 2

If you pass VFOOD 220 with a grade of B or higher, you can earn credit for CULN 140 Introduction to Baking & Pastry through the credit-by-exam process. Credits from VFOOD 220 can count towards a culinary certificate or degree at Santa Ana College. There is no tuition cost for VFOOD 220. Get started today.
