Critical & Academic Reading (CAR) Department Mission Statement
The mission of the Critical & Academic Reading (CAR) Department is to provide a quality, comprehensive reading instructional program designed to help students improve reading skills so they may achieve success in academic, work-related, and independent reading tasks. Our classes focus on intensive vocabulary development, reading comprehension at all levels of text, and critical analysis and interpretation. Traditional textbook strategies are utilized, keeping in mind the need for new strategies to deal with evolving technology. We strive to serve students at Santa Ana college that range from those struggling with English language development to those ready for transfer.
CAR Curriculum
The reading curriculum is designed to develop the necessary reading skills to succeed at Santa Ana College and beyond. The CAR Department offers a variety of reading courses to aid students in reaching this goal. CAR 101 and CAR 150 are offered every fall and spring semester; some are also offered during intersession and summer, so check those schedules.
