One-hundred-forty-four avid golfers enjoyed a balmy
Southern California day and the links at the SeaCliff
Country Club in Huntington Beach on May 19 to benefit
the Athletic Hall of Fame and athletic scholarships of
Santa Ana College. More than $62,000 net—a record--was
raised on the fairways and greens of this beautiful
course. This topped last year’s outcome by more than
$7,000.
Foundation Chairman Ken Purcell chaired the day-long
festivities, which featured First American Title once
again as the presenting sponsor. Other most appreciated
sponsors included: Dinner Sponsor - Citizen’s Bank;
Cart Sponsor - Seville Construction Services; Green
Sponsor - EMAE International, Inc.; Lunch Sponsor -
OCTFCU; Goodie Bag Sponsor - RSCCD Diversified Trust;
Photography Sponsor – Bernard’s Builders Management
Services; 19th Hole Sponsor - Fountain Valley
Regional Hospital and Medical Center; Front 9
Refreshment Sponsor - Student Insurance, and Back 9
Refreshment Sponsor - LA Gym.
Other highlights of the day included a live auction with
several one-of-a-kind opportunities. Ray Carrasco,
currently on the Senior PGA Tour and a former Santa Ana
College Athletic Hall of Famer, donated an autographed
golf bag and a round of golf with him at Big Canyon
Country Club. David Buehler, a recent member of the SAC
football team and current starting kicker for USC,
contributed an autographed jersey and the opportunity to
attend a USC practice session. Other Hall of Famers in
attendance were Nancy Warren, Dana Pagett and Keith
Luhnow.
“The Exercise Science Department at Santa Ana College is
grateful to all who participated in this year’s Ed
Arnold Golf Tournament,” observed department Dean Avie
Bridges. “Each year the tournament continues to grow,
increasing available funds for student scholarships and
the Athletic Hall of Fame. We are extremely grateful for
the support of Mr. Ed Arnold. He is truly a wonderful
friend to Santa Ana College.”
What more enjoyable way to support the great athletic
programs of Santa Ana College than to participate in the
Ed Arnold Golf Classic? Mark your calendars for mid-May
2009 and look for upcoming announcements.
