Teacher Education Orientations

These counselor-led information sessions provide an overview of the teaching profession by focusing on career opportunities, pathways to becoming a teacher, academic preparation, the CBEST and CSET exams, credential requirements, and teacher salary. Students in attendance will also learn about resources for future teachers at Santa Ana College.

CBEST Study Circles

These are free tutoring sessions for students planning to take the California Basic Education Skills Test, or CBEST. At the first session, staff will provide information about upcoming CBEST exams and students will receive a copy of the CBEST preparation book to self-study during the program. In addition to self-studying, students attend a series of workshops led by credentialed teachers wherein they receive tutoring in all sections of the CBEST (math, writing, and reading). Students are recommended to attend all sessions.

University Representative Appointments

Advising appointments are available with representatives from select universities. These representatives can advise students on the requirements needed to transfer into a teacher preparation program at their respective university. Appointments with university representatives are 30 minutes in length and may be scheduled in person or via phone.

Cal State Fullerton

Jacqueline Calabrese is our representative from CSU Fullerton's Center for Careers in Teaching.

UC Irvine

Martha Martinez is our representative from UC Irvine's CalTeach Science & Math Program.

UC Riverside

Alex Arriaga is our representative from UC Riverside's Teacher Education Program.

Teaching Field Experiences

Fieldwork experiences are designed to generate excitement and awareness of the various teaching career paths available. Each semester, the Center for Teacher Education hosts a campus visit to a CSU, UC, or private university, which typically includes a campus tour and information about teacher preparation programs at the respective campus. In addition, the Center for Teacher Education hosts a general field experience that provides professional development for future teachers and an opportunity to gain an in-depth behind-the-scenes perspective of a potential field trip site.

Teaching Workshops & Events

Various workshops and events are hosted throughout the year and are designed for students interested in becoming educators in the K-12 system. Workshop and event topics may also be of interest to students working with youth in other capacities.

Road to Teaching Conference

The Road to Teaching Conference occurs in Fall each academic year. The conference includes a keynote address, over 20 different workshops, and an educational resource fair. The conference is open to all those who are interested in teaching, including high school students, community college students, university students, and community members.

A list of events and activities for the current semester can be found by viewing the Center for Teacher Education's Upcoming Activities & Events Flyer.
