Dear SAC Family...

Exciting news

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) has set the date for the comprehensive visit to SAC. The visit will be conducted October 6-9, 2014. We are still waiting to hear who the chair and visiting team members will be. In the meantime, our co-chairs and standard teams are working to complete the draft self-evaluation report. I'll update the college at the open forum on Friday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. in A-210.

The RSCCD Board of Trustees took action at their meeting on Monday, March 10 approving the recommendation of James Kennedy as Vice President of Continuing Education. Congratulations! James no longer has the word "interim" in his title. We are so proud to have him on the administrative team.

Please welcome Lt. John Follo to Campus Safety and Security. Lt. James Wooley has been assigned to the District Office.

Classified Employees

In our continuing effort to communicate openly with classified staff, the annual communication survey is now available. Classified employees are encouraged to provide their feedback with the results to be incorporated into the accreditation self-evaluation report. Click here to begin the survey

The next TAB (Take a Break) with the President is Wednesday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. and then another one is set for Friday, April 4 at 9:00 a.m. Please send Kennethia Vega an email to confirm your attendance to one of these remaining meetings for the spring. I have held two already this semester including a visit to CEC.

The city of Santa Ana has prepared a five-year extension agreement for the lease of property at Centennial Park. The RSCCD Board of Trustees will consider the agreement for approval at their next meeting on March 24. While this is not the long-term solution, this provides additional time to develop that plan. Once the agreement is approved, CEC will see some minor renovations of paint and upgrades along with new parking lots.

The closing for the property at 17th and Bristol is April 17. At the end of business on that day, the property will belong to RSCCD. The District along with the college will begin the development process for this property.

Construction has begun in several areas on campus causing a detoured walk around some buildings, closures of some parking lots and other minor adjustments. To view the current construction projects and modified pedestrian walkways download a copy of the construction update map provided by Administrative Services. As always, thank you for your patience as the college moves forward in its next stage of development.

Special Event

SAC has partnered with PBS SoCal and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to premier a special screening of Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle on Thursday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Phillips Hall. A special commitment has been made to ensure student access to the screening with some seats available for a few close colleagues. Seating is limited and RSVP is required by March 27. Please contact Marisol Sanchez by phone at 714-564-6288 or send her an email. Due to the high demand and limited space no one will be admitted without RSVP.

As ever,
