Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Student Learning Outcomes assessments practices and their evaluations at SAC SCE are based on theASCCC (2010) Guiding principles for SLO assessment.pdf Guiding principles for SLO assessment document published by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) in 2010. Accompanying this document: ASCCC (2010) SLO Glossary.pdfSLO Glossary is also used to clarify the SLO concepts and definitions.

Professional Learning Communities project initiated in the fall of 2012 has at its heart formation of groups of teachers, whose primary activities focus on discussions, implementations, and evaluations of formative and summative assessments for continuous improvement of academic achievement of students. The group of teachers has grown in size since its inception partially thanks to the Basic Skills funding. The Santa Ana College, School of Continuing Education Professional Learning Community web site documents activities and ongoing discussions of the group:

SCE faculty coordinated and established an SLO Networking Group to facilitate discussion about the development, implementation, assessment and analysis of SLOs for more effective instruction and higher academic achievement of students. The SLO Networking Group met at a symposium on April 25, 2014 at North Orange County Community College District. The event was attended by 34 faculty, SLO coordinators, researchers and administrators from 22 community colleges from across California. The symposium was replicated on May 9, 2014 at Merritt College in Oakland. The SLO Networking Group web site documents the activities of the group:

At SAC SCE each department is responsible for its own assessment and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes.
