In the early 90s, Kim Kessler had aspirations to work in the fashion industry. She interviewed with Brooks College and the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising seeking the venue to fulfill her dream. At her aunt’s request to obtain a background in general education, Kim inquired at Santa Ana College and discovered SAC had an excellent and competitive fashion design and merchandising program. She enrolled in the program and graduated with an associate of arts degree in 1993.
Now at age 29, Kim owns her own shop – KiKi Originals – and is grateful for the experience and preparation she received at Santa Ana College.
“Choosing SAC has been one of the best decisions I have made,” said Kim who resides in Long Beach. “Not only did I learn all the fundamentals of fashion design and merchandising, but I also expanded my knowledge in many different areas that allows me to be better engaged in society.”
KiKi Originals, located at 4117 E. 4th Street in Long Beach, caters to customized bridal concepts. Kim designs fashions for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, etc. With a small staff, when big orders come across her desk, she opens the opportunity for others by offering internships.
“Ironically, I’ve had many interns studying at Brooks College,” Kim said. “It’s knowing how much money they spend for their training when I most appreciate my turn of events.”
