DISTRESSED STUDENTS
Students may encounter stress for a variety or reasons, which include academics, family problems or responsibilities, social life, work, and financial concerns. Some students are able to cope successfully with the demands of juggling daily life with college life. But for some, the pressure can become overwhelming, unmanageable, and sometimes unbearable.
Faculty, staff, and fellow students may be placed in an unusual position in which they identify and choose to help someone in distress. There are many types of stress, which can be represented differently and must be addressed accordingly. How you go about helping will depend on several factors: their level of distress, the nature or your relationship, the type of setting you are in, and, more importantly, your comfort level in helping that individual cope and deal with their distress.
Santa Ana's Health and Wellness Center supports student success by recognizing that total wellness is essential to academic success. The Center strives to provide optimum physical and mental health services to the college community in a confidential environment with sensitivity to individual needs. All information is confidential and available only to the patient with few exceptions.
