MESA Components
MESA components are structured to build an academically-based peer community to provide mutual student support and motivation. This community of learners is what sets MESA apart from other programs.
Student Study Center - multipurpose room where students study, workshops are conducted, and meetings take place.
Academic Excellence Workshops - students are scheduled in the same core math and science classes and are instructed how to develop and maintain high academics through group study.
Orientation Courses - introductory course highlighting academic and social adjustments to college as a MESA major. Program goals and expectations are outlined with participating students.
University Transfer Assistance - field trips to universities, admissions applications workshops, financial aid, and academic advisement.
Career Advising - introduction of career opportunities and information related to science majors (i.e., summer internships, lecture series).
Links with Student/Professional Organizations - mentors, guest speakers, and industry opportunities are provided. Student organizations are highly encouraged as part of a MESA student's active participation and they include 1) SHPE/MAES Club and 2) Premedical Students Association.
Professional Development Workshop Workshops - workshops are offered to students each semester in order to increase awareness of careers in the sciences and improving study skills.
Industry Advisory Board - relationship establishments between students and the industry leaders. The board provides scholarships, strategic planning, summer internships, field trips and other students services resources.
