Noyce Mathematics Program: Transitioning Math Majors into Teaching

Why join?

Meet Our SAC Noyce Associates
Victoria Martinez
Victoria is involved in the MESA and Teacher Pathway Partnership programs at SAC. She is an Instructional Provider for ENGAGE 360, an afterschool program in SAUSD. Victoria plans to transfer to CSUF to earn a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, become a high school math teacher in SAUSD and eventually earn her Master's degree. She is excited to be in TMMT because the program allows her to be mentored by professors, to network with other students, and to learn how to become the best teacher she can be. In her free time, Victoria likes sewing projects, hiking, and spending time with loved ones.
Serena Hazel
Serena currently works at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center and St. John's Lutheran School's School Age Care. She plans to transfer to CSUF to earn a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and dreams of becoming a high school math teacher. Serena is extremely passionate about math and believes her patience will help her to become an effective math teacher in the future. She also hopes to get students to understand the importance of math and why they are learning it. In her free time, Serena enjoys being behind the camera and is a skilled photographer.
Ivan Ortega
Ivan is currently a SAC student majoring in Math. Ivan plans on transferring to Cal State Fullerton to earn a bachelor's degree in mathematics. Ivan is very patient with children and hopes to teach at the middle school level. In Ivan's free time, he enjoys playing sports such as volleyball, basketball, and hiking. With the help of the NOYCE program, Ivan hopes to achieve his academic goals.
Juan Lopez
Juan has plans to transfer to Cal State Fullerton in the Spring of 2021 to earn his bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Juan also will continue to further his education to achieve his master's degree. Juan's career goal is to become a math teacher in the Santa Unified School District (SAUSD) because he wants to be surrounded by the community that raised him through the power of education. Juan has experience working with SAUSD elementary students through a mentorship program which inspired his career goal of teaching math. In Juan's free time, he skateboards and loves to go to the beach.
Misha Wright
Misha plans to transfer to CSUF with an AS-T in Mathematics with the plan to earn a BA in Teaching Mathematics. After obtaining his BA, Misha plans to work in a high school for a couple years while earning his Masters. Misha plans to teach in a community college classroom. Misha is in the TMMT program because of his passion for helping others, on top of his love for learning. Misha's goal is to show that math is just like learning to read. It takes time, effort, and an open mind, but everyone can learn math with a bit of help. In Misha's free time, he enjoys tending his patio garden, throwing clay on a wheel, cleaning/organizing, and chilling with his feline daughter, Cassy.
