The Requirements
Age requirement
Must be 18 years of age or older at the start of the classes to participate in clinical and to take certifying exams for state certification.
CPR Card requirement
Must have a current and valid "BLS Provider" CPR card (2015 standards) issued by the American Heart Association. The card will be required to be presented to the instructor on the first day of class. No other cards will be accepted (Red Cross, private vendors, etc.). Visit www.americanheart.org to find a training center near you.
Background, Drug screen, and Clinical requirements
Due to federal, and state and local EMS mandates and/or program requirements, all students are required to have a cleared background check and a cleared drug test, along with verification of: TB testing, TDap, Hepatitis B, Flu shot, and COVID-19, Varicella, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella titers.
Instructor will provide instructions on Background/Drug test checks.
Prerequisite knowledge
Some basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and sterile techniques will be helpful.
Uniform & Reliable Transportation
A white polo shirt, black or navy blue pants (no jeans), student EMT badge, black leather shoes, a digital or second hand wristwatch, an EMT kit and reliable transportation, are all required for the EMT courses and/or clinical internship.
How To Enroll
Must complete SAC's Admissions & Records Office procedures to register online, open registration (first come first serve opportunities).
Concurrent enrollment is required for both EMT courses. Each EMT course must be completed with an 80% or higher (along with passing skills final and written final exams), during the same semester to receive course completion certification. Successful completion of the EMT courses qualifies the student to take the National Registry, state and county certifying exams. EMT courses:
1. EMT 104—Emergency Medical Technician (10 units), and
2. EMT 105—Clinical EMT Skills Laboratory (1 unit)
