Where do you fit in our Biology Program?
General Biology:
A series of courses for non-biology majors who need to fulfill their general education requirements. They can also serve as introductory courses for students pursuing advanced study in life sciences. Our most popular courses that meeting transfer requirements for most 4-year university programs includes Biology 109/109L (Fundamentals of Biology), Biology 111 (Marine Biology), and Biology/Env 259 (Environmental Biology).
Animals and Plants:
These courses study living organisms, animal and plant diversity, their evolution and ecology, and their relationship to the environment. Some of these courses are required of majors in biology, medicine, forestry and agriculture. Biology 212 (Animal Diversity & Ecology), Biology 214 (Plant Diversity & Evolution), and our various field courses (see below).
Environmental, Ecology and Natural History
: Biology 200 (Human Ecology), and Biology/Env 259 (Environmental Biology).
Cell, Molecular and Genetics:
Biology 211 (Cell & Molecular Biology), Biology 177 (Human Genetics) and Biology 290 (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology).
Microbiology:
Courses frequently required by health science majors, agriculture, biotechnology and ecology. Biology 139 (Health Microbiology) and Biology 229 (General Microbiology).
Anatomy and Physiology:
Courses frequently required by Health Science majors. Biology 149 (Human Anatomy & Physiology), Biology 217 (Pathophysiology), Biology 239 (General Human Anatomy), and Biology 249 (Human Physiology).
Biotechnology:
Biology 190 (Intro to Biotechnology), Biology 190L (Intro Biotech Lab), Biology 191 (Biotech A: Basic Skills), Biology 192 (Biotech B: Proteins), Biology 193 (Biotech C: Nucleic Acids), Biology 194 (Quality and Regulatory Compliance in Biosciences), Biology 195 (
Biotech: QC/QA Microbiology
), Biology 197 (STEM Internship/Work Experience), and Biology 202 (Cell Culture Techniques).
Field Biology:
Each semester, the Biology Department offers one field course, where students spend a weekend camping in various locations throughout the California and beyond. These courses include Biology 127 (Ecology), Biology 128 (Natural History of the California Coast), Biology 129 (Ecology of Southern California), Biology 131 (Natural History of the Southwest), Biology 132 (Natural History of Death Valley), Biology 133 (Desert Biology), Biology 169 (Natural History of the Sierra Nevadas).

If you are a future educator, we offer courses to prepare you. This includes Biology 115 (Concepts in Biology for Educators).
