CAR 150 Critical Reading

Recommended Preparation: ENGL 101 or ENGL 101H
This course addresses the relationship between critical reading and critical thinking, including emphasis on the development of critical reading and thinking skills that facilitate the interpretation, analysis, criticism, and advocacy of ideas encountered in academic reading.
Student Learning Outcomes
Write argumentative and persuasive essays after critical research is conduced.
Read critically to identify the components of an argument, such as issue, claim, support, refutation.
Identify propaganda techniques used in text (including print and visual), such as plain folks, name calling, etc.
Recognize errors in reasoning in text, such as straw man, circular reasoning, red herring, etc.
