Content

  1. Content review a minimum of every August and February

  2. Content will be updated and maintained in a timely manner

  3. Careful attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word use

  4. Short, concise titles, subtitles, phrasing and descriptions

  5. Use of meaningful, unique titles <TITLE> tag

  6. Use of approved <META> tag(s)

  7. Contact person’s name and email address or Web form

  8. Date of page creation, and date of last modified of substantive changes

  9. Links to other resources licensed by the College or Library is acceptable

  10. Exclusion of copyrighted materials of others unless permission is granted and documented

  11. Compliance with applicable District, State, and Federal Laws

  12. Use of approved copyright and disclaimer statement

  13. Use of approved template-content portion (Subject Guides, Department pages)

  14. Use of approved template for professional pages

  15. Include help document when appropriate

Technical  

  1. Code using MS FrontPage or other HTML 4.0 compliant editor

  2. Use succinct directory and file names

  3. Avoid graphic intensive elements that increase page-loading time

  4. Use height and width attributes for all graphic images

  5. Use ALT tag with descriptive text for graphics and graphic images used as navigational links

  6. Check pages against ADA requirements, i.e., Bobby, etc.

  7. Check pages with variety of browsers

  8. Provide link to Library Webmaster email or Web-based form

  9. Update site map and index after page addition/deletion

  10. Use approved form-handler, etc.

  11. Apply appropriate meta-tags

  12. Provide site searching

  13. Provide reference to access designation: SAC Only, Library Use Only, etc.

  14. Provide periodic mini-surveys

  15. Provide quicklinks (pull-down menu) for repeat users

  16. Provide alternative/assistance for resources that require a plug-in

Management  

  1. Comply with Library Web site updating procedure, template use, standards & guidelines

  2. Link checking on a weekly basis by DWE

  3. Back-up Web site periodically, minimum of monthly

  4. Explore interactivity options

  5. Report site server statistics on a quarterly basis

  6. Report search report on a quarterly basis

  7. Conduct periodic surveys on single issues, i.e., customer satisfaction

Web Page Requirements Checklist (Last Revision: 10/16/02)

  • No ‘‘Under Construction’’ pages will be accepted.

  • All images used for your pages must be stored in the ‘‘Images’’ subdirectory.

  • To satisfy web accessibility compliance, all image links must include an 
    ‘‘alt = imagedescription’’ in the tag (e.g., <img src="images/deptlogo.gif" width = "475" height = "401" alt = ’’Table of Content’’>.

  • Include the title, Content Provider name as ‘‘Author’’, and keywords for searching in the header of your html page.

  • related URL links must be relative (e.g., < a href = "info/index.htm" >) rather than absolute (e.g., < a href = "///file/RSC23/wip/info/index.htm" >).

  • All pages and references to pages found within the Web site should end with a ".htm" extension (Note: Instead of an .html extension).

  • All pages must provide a navigational menu bar on each page to allow users easy access throughout the site without dependence on the browser Back/Forward buttons.

  • The following information should be included at the bottom of every page: the name of

    • the full URL of the page

    • the Content Provider (contact person responsible for the page),

    • the date the page was last revised.

  • All graphics used must be accompanied by the HTML "Width" and "Height" parameters to optimize performance of page downloads. The width and height tags should not be used to resize images.

  • All graphics should be saved in GIF format (unless a photograph is used) to optimize the performance of page downloads. Photographic images can be saved in JPG format.

  • Pages should not exceed 50K in size.

  • The Navigation Bar should not be altered and should appear on every page.
