Admission Procedures:

 

  • Apply to Santa Ana College to obtain a student ID#.  Download the OTA packet for instructions.  Submit application and transcripts to the OTA office. 
  • Provide college transcripts, high-school transcripts, 12th grade completion or equivalent to: Santa Ana College - OTA Department - 1530 W. 17th. Street, Santa Ana, CA. 92706-3398
     
    • Provide all name changes and all transcripts from previously completed college work. It is your responsibility to be certain that all transcripts have been received. 
       
  • Completion of the following tests:  (Required of all applicants except those that have a baccalaureate degree.) These tests are for the purpose of providing guidance and for establishment that pre-requisite skills for OTA 101 and 101L have been met.
     
    • College Test of English Placement (reading section only) with a minimum score of 25 or above.  Students scoring below 25 will be referred to Student Success Center.  

     

    • Santa Ana College Test in Math, Level II, showing a total score at 26 or above or successful completion of Intermediate Algebra 080 or 081 with a grade of "C" or better.  
       

  • The required prerequisites for the OTA Program are completion of the following courses, with a grade of "C" or better:
     
    • Biology 149, Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 units), OR *Biology 239 and 249 (8 units total)
    • English 101 or 101H, (4 units)
    • Oral Communication Skills (3 units). Satisfactory completion of Speech Communication 101, 101H, 102, 140, 145, or 152.
    • Psychology 100 or 100H (a prerequisite for Psychology 250).
      For a total of 14 - 18 units.

    *Students contemplating transfer to four year institutions should take these courses.
      

  • A current CPR BLS C (American Heart Association) card must be presented.
  • An OTA application can be obtained from the OTA packet.  Applicants must have completed all prerequisites classes before submitting the application. 

Students will be selected according to date of receipt of the application form. If not accepted because of space limitation, students will be placed in the next class that has available space. If an occasion arises wherein more than one verification form is ready at the same time, the order in which they are numbered and submitted to the department is determined by lottery.

Once selected, students must provide evidence of a physical examination and appropriate immunizations, verifying the applicant's physical ability to perform the clinical requirement of an occupational therapy assistant. Examinations must have been performed within 12 months prior to beginning the OTA program.

Students who are "no show" for the first day of class will be dropped and an alternate will replace them.

Advanced placement in the program for those students with prior occupational therapy assistant education will be evaluated on an individual basis by the program coordinator.
