Film demonstrates methods of applying water to structural fires in most efficient manner. Latest techniques in handling nozzles, direct, indirect and combination fire fighting. Discusses concepts of thermal balance.

DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
Produced as companion film to "The Nozzleman." Demonstrates to fire officers fire behavior in structures, fire flow requirements, distribution of water, attack points and effects of different attack methods. The importance of coordinated attack lines and necessity of communication is stressed.

DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
Basic steps of wearing and using standard breathing apparatus at live fires. Visual operation of parts shown. Newer types of SCBA’S shown.

THE NOBLE BREED 0CFSL-(V-305)  27 min. – B & W -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This film is primarily a public relations film with no particular value for training except as a motivator for new firefighters or students. Produced is a documentary style, and narrated by Rod Sterling. Shows actual scenes at fires, rescues, and the spectrum of duties carried out by the firefighter.

FIRE FIGHTING TACTICS & STRATEGY OCFSL-(V-315)  24 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
Basic procedures of tactics and strategy. Effective illustration given of all operations generally recognized in RECEO. Live fireground footage use. Film produced during "Willows" exercises.

EMERGENCY CHILDBIRTH OCFSL-(V-318)   20 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This film depicts the proper procedures to follow in the event fire personnel are involved in an emergency childbirth case. Actual births are presented in the film. This film was produced under the direction of the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. This is not the same film more commonly shown that was produced by the U.S. Navy.

DESIGN FOR DISASTER OCFSL-(V-322)   25 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
The Los Angeles Fire Department’s filmed story of the Bel Air conflagration of 1961. Vividly displays how rapid spreading brush fires are compounded by winds, wood shingle roofs, and inadequate water supplies. This film is based on the real life event which destroyed over 500 homes. Has value for wildland fire fighting and building construction classes.

KNOW THE CAUSE OCFSL-(V-323)   35 min. – B & W  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This film on fire investigation stresses the importance of careful overhauling at fires. Emphasis on unnecessarily destroying evidence needed to establish fire cause. Points out various types of arson fires and different devices that are used. Although the film is old, the basic information is still good.

CHLORINE AND THE FIREFIGHTER OCFSL-(V-324)    29 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
Demonstrates hazards, problems, properties and solutions in handling chlorine under various emergencies. Examples of emergencies such as a gas leak at a crowded swimming pool and a tank car full of chlorine are shown. Five standard containers used and emergency kits for each explained.

HIGH-RISE-PRE-PLAN OCFSL-(V-325)    25 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
An orientation and training film on modern techniques for fire protection in high rise buildings. Illustrates the basic problems inherent in these structures. The emphasis is on planning procedures and instructions on the handling of fires and other emergencies. Film could be shown to property managers, architects, building officials, etc.

VENTILATION OCFSL-(V-328) 25 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
A good coverage of ventilation as it relates to both fire fighting tactics and fire fighter safety.

PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER  OCFSL- (V-330)   25 min. – Color –
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
 
(Somewhat obsolete because of depiction of illegal inverting, old type foam and soda acid extinguisher.)  Film shows the incorrect and correct use of extinguisher stressing the need to read the instructions on the units before use. There are excellent scenes of the reactions caused by improper application of agents. This film can be used for both hazardous materials, and tactics and strategy classes.

ANALYSIS OF A BULK PLANT FIRE OCFSL-(V-333)  24 min. – B & W -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
(Kansas City Gasoline Fire)   A dramatic film recorded in a newsreel type approach of the Kansas City Fire in the early 60’s. There is a prologue explaining conditions prior to the fire and an epilogue containing important suggestions to be used to inform firefighters of proper procedures and personal safety.

KNOW YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT OCFSL-(V-334)  36 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
 A complete description of a large fire department (Los Angeles City). The film shows types of companies, their equipment and operation, including triplets, two piece, ladder truck, salvage, harbor, airport, wildland and rescue apparatus. Organizations, ranks, hiring, training, fire prevention and other special bureaus and units are discussed. Even though this film was made in the 1950’s, it is an excellent depiction of the total concept of fire department operation. Good film for introduction class or general public. Some value for tactics or fire apparatus classes.

HOW TO BE A SMOOTH OPERATOR OCFSL-(V-335)   16 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
 This film is designed to describe use, operation and maintenance of elevated platforms.

SAFETY, ISN’T IT WORTH IT? OCFSL-(V-337)     20 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This is a specialty film on safety in hospitals and hospital labs. It covers flammable liquids, toxics, corrosives and other hazardous materials found in hospitals.

THE MAKING OF A FIREFIGHTER OCFSL-(V-338)  16 min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This film describes rookie training for L.A. County. Primarily an Introduction to Fire Protection or Recruit Academy film.

FIRE IN THE COMMUNITY OCFSL-(V-340)  20 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This film describes the proper method of using AFFF, commonly called "Light Water." Film illustrates live-fire demonstrations and is useful in both tactics and hazardous materials classes.

ABCD’S OF THE DIESEL ENGINE OCFSL-(V-343)   19 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This is a film that describes the basic design and operation of a diesel engine. It relates primarily to the method of ignition used by a diesel engine as opposed to a gasoline engine, and shows some of the techniques required to operate a diesel engine. This film should be used primarily in a class on fire apparatus or driver training.

TIN PAN FIRE DRILL OCFSL-(V-345). 15 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This is a film that describes a technique for conducting exit drills in the home. It was produced prior to the development of operation EDITH and the term "Tin Pan Fire Drill" refers to the use of a Tin Pan to raise sufficient alarm for the family to exit their home. The film is somewhat old but may have some value either in fire prevention classes or in presentations to be given to the public. It is not particularly valuable to firefighters.

HOW TO SAVE A CHOKING VICTIM OCFSL-(V-347)  11 min. – Color -  
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
I(The Heimlich Maneuver)  Dr. Heimlich explains and demonstrates the Heimlich Maneuver. The film opens with a dramatic sequence that brings home the danger of choking…for everyone. Then, clearly and memorably, Dr. Heimlich demonstrates his life-saving technique in detail. He shows how to immediately identify a choking victim and how to make sure the victim is not suffering from a heart attack. It also shows how the maneuver may be used by everyone, how victims can save themselves, how to use the method on infants and pregnant women, and how to save a victim who’s already unconscious from lack of air. Most importantly, Dr. Heimlich shows how to avoid the danger of choking in the first place.

RESIDENTIAL SPRINKLERS – BONDI STORY III OCFSL-(V-348)  20 min. – color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
This is the third in a series of stories about the loss of children’s lives in a dwelling fire. This film shows the installation of residential sprinklers including the basic procedures to follow and the benefits of the system in single family homes.

A DAY TO REMEMBER OCFSL-(V-351)  28 Min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
The film is the dramatic story of a rookie straight from the academy and a veteran with eighteen years on the force. Packed with action as well as information, the film emphasizes "why" along with "how to", clearly illustrating training points important for rookies and veterans.

A film on good fire inspection procedures.

FIRE DOORS OCFSL-(V-354)  20 Min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
A film produced and donated by the Overly Manufacturing company that describes the construction and testing of fire doors. Primarily useful in Fire Prevention or Building Construction classes.

BURN EMERGENCY OCFSL-(V-356)  24 Min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
A clear set of priorities for emergency care of burns…Burn Assessment, Burn Care B’s and C’s, Thermal Burn Care, Chemical Burn Care, Electrical Burn Care…shown in colorful animation and demonstrated in live action by actual fire, ambulance and police treatment teams.

THE BEVERLY HILLS SUPPER CLUB FIRE OCFSL-(V-363)  15 Min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
Produced as a companion film to the slide series, "The Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire" (S-60). This film illustrates problems with improper code enforcement in public assemblage occupancies. In this film NFPA personnel explain the use of the life safety code. Primarily used for fire prevention or building construction classes.

FIRE: CONCEPTS AND BEHAVIOR OCFSL-(V-366)  20 Min. – Color  -
DESCRIPTIVE ANNOTATION:
A table top type demonstration of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels explaining the tetrahedron of fire, flash point, ignition temperature and methods of heat transfer.
