Los Angeles Fire Department’s filmed story of the Bel Air conflagration
of 1961. Vividly displays how rapid spreading brush fires are compounded
by winds, wood shingle roofs, and inadequate water supplies. This film
is based on the real life event which destroyed over 500 homes. Has
value for wildland fire fighting and building construction classes.

(Kansas City Gasoline Fire) A dramatic film recorded in a newsreel
type approach of the Kansas City Fire in the early 60’s. There is a
prologue explaining conditions prior to the fire and an epilogue
containing important suggestions to be used to inform firefighters of
proper procedures and personal safety.

description of a large fire department (Los Angeles City). The film
shows types of companies, their equipment and operation, including
triplets, two piece, ladder truck, salvage, harbor, airport, wildland
and rescue apparatus. Organizations, ranks, hiring, training, fire
prevention and other special bureaus and units are discussed. Even
though this film was made in the 1950’s, it is an excellent depiction of
the total concept of fire department operation. Good film for
introduction class or general public. Some value for tactics or fire
apparatus classes.

This is a film that describes a technique for conducting exit drills in
the home. It was produced prior to the development of operation EDITH
and the term "Tin Pan Fire Drill" refers to the use of a Tin Pan to
raise sufficient alarm for the family to exit their home. The film is
somewhat old but may have some value either in fire prevention classes
or in presentations to be given to the public. It is not particularly
valuable to firefighters.

ANNOTATION: I(The Heimlich Maneuver) Dr. Heimlich explains
and demonstrates the Heimlich Maneuver. The film opens with a dramatic
sequence that brings home the danger of choking…for everyone. Then,
clearly and memorably, Dr. Heimlich demonstrates his life-saving
technique in detail. He shows how to immediately identify a choking
victim and how to make sure the victim is not suffering from a heart
attack. It also shows how the maneuver may be used by everyone, how
victims can save themselves, how to use the method on infants and
pregnant women, and how to save a victim who’s already unconscious from
lack of air. Most importantly, Dr. Heimlich shows how to avoid the
danger of choking in the first place.
