Subject:                          Revised SAC Mission Statement

Dear Erlinda,

After a very integrated process of review, the IE&A Committee, at its March 9, 2012 meeting, approves a revised mission statement for Santa Ana College. We are now forwarding it for College Council review and approval. I would be happy to attend any meetings you wish to explain the complete process and the reasons for the changes.

Briefly, the recommendation for review came out of the Mid-Cycle Planning Retreat discussion related to Task 1. After discussion with Table Team 1 representatives at an IE&A meeting, the recommended changes were refined. At that point, the IE&A committee referred the revised statement to all participatory governance committees for input. Input was received. The revised statement was then discussed with the table team representatives from Table Teams II-VI. By May 9th, discussion was complete, the statement underwent further slight revision, and it was approved by IE&A.

Please see the proposed revision alongside the current mission statement:

Current Mission Statement:

The mission of Santa Ana College is to be a leader and partner in meeting the intellectual, cultural, technological, workforce and economic development needs of our diverse community. Santa Ana College prepares students for transfer, employment, careers and lifelong intellectual pursuit in a dynamic learning environment.

Proposed Revised Mission Statement:

The mission of Santa Ana College is to be a leader and partner in meeting the intellectual, cultural, technological and workforce development needs of our diverse community. Santa Ana College provides access and equity in a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for transfer, careers and lifelong intellectual pursuits in a global community.

Approved IE&A 05-09-12

Thank you for your consideration.
