Middle College High School participated in the Santa Ana College Book of the Year: The House on Mango Street by engaging the students in Literature Circles in our book clubs after school. Students from 9th -12th grade had opportunities to enjoy the text in small groups. They read chapters together to analyze themes, imagery, and the author’s craft. To reinforce critical thinking and literary analysis, students played several key roles such as discussion director, illustrator, summarizer, and connector to facilitate discussions. Moreover, our students and faculty enjoyed attending the House on Mango Street dramatic production to see their favorite chapters come to life.
The House of Mango Street is a seminal work in Latina writing and in Hispanic Literature.
