CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTING AWARD FUNDS

Award funds offered in your award letter are tentative.   Certain funds require additional processing steps before disbursement.  It is your responsibility to complete the process to ensure funds can be confirmed and disbursed to you.

 ·          All awards - Your academic transcripts from all prior colleges/universities, in the U.S. and/or foreign countries, must be submitted to the Admissions’ office.  Notify Santa Ana College’s financial aid office upon submitting your transcripts to the Admissions office so the financial aid office can request Admissions’ office to evaluate your transcripts. Your Satisfactory Academic Progress will be recalculated after the transcript evaluation, and you award will be modified according to the result.

·          New Cal Grant Entitlement – You must confirm your high school diploma status with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) if you haven’t already done so.  You can do this online at https://my grantinfo.csac.ca.gov or at www.webgrants4students.org.  CSAC will notify us of your confirmation.

·          Federal work-study – You must contact the Student Placement Office, room U-222 to sign up for a job interview.  The Student Placement Office will begin making appointment on August 19th, 2013 and continue until September 9th, 2013. Bring a photocopy of this award letter when you visit the Student Placement Office.  If you do not contact the Student Placement Office by September 9th, 2013, we will assume that you have changed your mind and the FWS award will be cancelled and presented to another student.

·          Direct Loans – If you want to borrow a Student loan, you must pick up a loan packet and sign up for a loan workshop at the financial aid office (for returning borrowers, please contact our office or see our website for more information).  Before coming to the workshop, you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and the Student Loan Entrance Counseling on-line at www.studentloans.gov.  Your electronic MPN and Entrance Counseling must be on file in the financial aid system before your student loan(s) can be originated and disbursed.  At the workshop, you will learn about your Right and Responsibilities, SAC Direct Loan program Policy and Procedures, and will be given a quiz.  To demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the Direct Loan Program, you must pass the quiz or your Loan Request will not be processed. Loan amount will be divided in two checks each semester. Late applicants may receive one combined check for two disbursements.  An Exit Counseling is required before we disburse the second part of your loan. Exit Counseling can also be done online at www.studentloans.gov.  The Department of Education will notify us upon your completion.  Deadline to submit all required documents for loan processing for fall 2013 is November 18th, 2013, and for spring 2014 is April 25th, 2014.  If we do not receive all required documents for loan processing by the deadlines, we will assume that you have changed your mind and your Direct Loan Request will be cancelled.

NO PELL GRANT AWARD

If your award does not include a Pell Grant, you may either:

·          Have a high EFC that does not qualify you for a Pell Grant award

·          Have a Bachelor’s degree that does not qualify you for a Pell Grant award

·          Have exceeded the 600 percent lifetime used of Pell Grant according to the new Federal Law

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS (SAP) POLICY

·          RSCCD is required by federal regulations to establish a Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

·          Students who do not meet the minimum SAP standards will lose their eligibility for financial aid. The complete SAP policy can be found on the financial aid page at www.sac.edu or obtained at the financial aid office.

·          Students, who went through the SAP Appeal process and got approved for an academic program, must adhere to the program plan.  The financial aid award will be modified to reflect only the units required for the approved academic program.

RETURN OF TITLE IV FUNDS AND OVERPAYMENT

Federal regulations require that a student must pay back part or all of their financial aid received if a student withdraws from all  or part of their classes before November 1st, 2013 for the fall 2013 semester and April 11th, 2014 for the spring 2014 semester.  Please make an appointment with a financial aid advisor if you consider dropping all of your classes.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provide students certain rights regarding their educational records, including information on the student’s financial aid application. As a rule, the RSCCD Financial Aid Offices cannot release information to anyone other than the student. If you want RSCCD to release information to someone else, please visit our Financial Aid Office and request a Student Authorization Release Form. You must present your Student ID, current California ID, or California Driver’s License to make this request.
