Financial Aid Application Process

2014-2015

STEP 1.   JANUARY 2014

Complete the 2014-2015 FAFSA or the Renewal FAFSA mailed to your home.  If the Renewal Application is not available, the  2014-2015 FAFSA should be used.

Organize your and your parents' 2013 income information which you will need to complete the FAFSA accurately.  You will need 2013 income records such as 2013 W2-forms, 2013 Federal Income 1040 Tax returns if available and records of untaxed income received during 2013, including income earned but paid in cash.

NOTE:  The FAFSA is required for most student aid programs, including grants, loans, and federal work-study.

FEDERAL STUDENT ASSISTANCE APPLICATION

There are a lot of good reasons to fill out your Federal Student Assistance application and submit it on the web.  This site walks you through the FAFSA on-line application.

This is a government web site, but it sure isn't stuffy and boring!

This Web site explains, in a step by step format, how to properly complete a FAFSA, the purpose of the FAFSA questions, and how to report information in some unusual cases.

STEP 2.   MARCH 2014

Mail the FAFSA no later than March 2, 2014.  NEW Cal Grant applicants must also mail the completed GPA verification form to the California Student Aid Commission no later than March 2, 2014.

NOTE: Students may still complete the FAFSA after March 2nd and will still be considered for financial aid at Santa Ana or Santiago Canyon College. However, the March 2nd deadline must be met to be considered for Cal Grant programs.

STEP 3.   APRIL - MAY 2014

Once the FAFSA has been processed by the processing center (usually within four to six weeks after submitting the FAFSA), a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be mailed to the student and all colleges listed on the FAFSA will receive the student's record.  As we receive processed FAFSA records, a packet of supplemental forms will be mailed to students beginning in June.
