Title

Entry List for First Semester ‒ Information for the SAC Nursing Program

Comments

Why won't the title and the title on the left side menu match???

Titles on left should be in a sans serif typeface; the serif face clashes with the rest of the page. It is also a book face and doesn't work as a display face.

PLEASE CLICK on the following link for the most current Multi-criteria Admission Process April 2013.pdf
Additional documents, including detailed information, application form, and checklist will be posted by July 2013

****Students who obtain an LVN license while on the 1st or 2nd semester waitlists will be automatically moved to the bottom of our 3rd semester waitlist as 3rd semester is the entry point for LVN's. A new prerequisite verification form will need to be submitted along with a copy of the LVN License. The Role Transition course, N-RN 200, is required prior to entering the 3rd semester.

Program information:

1- It is suggested that students attend a Nursing Information Orientation given by the Counseling Department, which can be reached at 714/564-6103.

2- The Program is four semesters in length and begins with RN 101/101L. Successful completion of the Program will result in an Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) as well as being eligible to take the nursing licensing exam (NCLEX-RN). The Santa Ana College Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

3- The Traditional Program admits students twice each year. The semesters are 16 weeks. Theory courses meet 2 times per week. Clinical courses are 12 to 24 hours per week generally on Mondays and/or Tuesdays with some possible Sundays.

4- The Extended Campus Program (ECP) admits students once each year. Theory courses meet 1 day per week in the evening except during fourth semester when they meet twice per week during the day. Clinical courses are 12 hours on every Saturday or every other Saturday and Sunday. The semesters are 16 to 21 weeks, depending on the semester (1st and 3rd semesters are 21 weeks; 2nd semester is 19 weeks; 4th semester is 16 weeks). The 1st and 3rd semesters begin in July and end in December; the 2nd begins in January and ends in June; the 4th semesters begin in January and end in May. ECP theory courses (generally) and Skills and Computer Labs are housed at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. All students may participate in the Skills and Computer Labs at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange and Santa Ana College.

5- Community-based nursing clinical days for both the Traditional and ECP programs are arranged on days other than regular clinical days.

6- All students entering the first semester at a community college must pass a state-regulated diagnostic assessment test. Santa Ana College utilizes the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS test). It tests math, English, reading and science. All students are encouraged to log onto www.atitesting.com for study material and other useful resources and information. For TEAS test information click the following link: TEST OF ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC SKILLS (TEAS) Information.pdf

7- STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM OFF-CAMPUS CLINICAL SITES.

8- **Please note**: This is considered a full-time program. Students are advised to limit outside employment. Excessive work schedules combined with family and school commitments may contribute to being unsuccessful in the program.

**An Entry List for first semester has been in use. All students on the entry list for first semester must enter in Spring 2014 or will be required to apply through the Multi-Criteria admission process.

Eligibility for placement on the Nursing Entry List was based upon completion of prerequisite classes. The prerequisites were:

Anatomy (Biology 239)
Human Physiology (Biology 249)
Health Microbiology (Biology 139) {General Microbiology (Biology 229) is acceptable}
Freshman Composition (English 101/101H)

» Science Courses must have been completed within five (5) years prior to the student being added to the entry list.

For those students currently on the entry list, the completed prerequisites require a grade of "C" or higher.

» Once a student is placed on the list, if there is any change in address, name, and/or phone number, the student must notify the Nursing Office in writing. If we are unable to contact you by phone and/or mail, your name will be removed from the Entry List. Additionally, it is the student’s responsibility to notify the college of those same changes.

How students are chosen from the old entry list (For the new admission process, please see the multi-criteria application information Multi-criteria Admission Process April 2013.pdf):

For each Fall (Summer for ECP) class, students are chosen:
a- First-come, first-served for half of the admitting class (minus half of an ECP group).
b- Priority ranking system of grades in prerequisite classes for half of the admitting class (minus half of an ECP group).
A= 10 points
B= 5 points
C= 1 point.
c- St. Joseph Employees for one clinical group in the ECP program (chosen utilizing the same system as above).

**To qualify as a St. Joseph employee, you must be a full- or part-time employee for six months or more and you must attach a copy of your St. Joseph or Heritage Central employee badge and a letter of verification of current employment and employment for the past 6 months from human resources to your application that you submit to the Nursing Office. Per diem employees do not qualify and no other facility's employment qualifies one as a “St. Joseph employee.”

For each Spring class, students are chosen:
a- First-come, first-served for half of the admitting class.
b- Priority ranking system of grades in prerequisite classes for half of the admitting class.
A= 10 points
B= 5 points
C= 1 point.

For those students on the old entry list:

To make it easier to find your place on the list, you can use the "Find" command on your computer. This is done by using Ctrl F (PC users) or Apple F (MAC users) when the Entry List page is displayed. Your student ID number may be a 9-digit, 7-digit, or a 6-digit number

If your student ID number is 9 digits, enter it in groups of three with hyphens in between, for example: XXX-XXX-XXX.

If your ID is 7 digits, enter it as one number, for example: XXXXXXX.

Or, if your ID number only has 6 digits, enter it in groups of three with hyphens in between, placing three zeroes in front, for example: 000-XXX-XXX.
