​​​​​​MISSION ST​ATEMENT

The mission of the Anthropology, Sociology, and Women’s Studies department is to promote appreciation, understanding and respect for cultural and biological diversity using scientific principles. The three distinct disciplines of the department provide a variety of courses for students seeking AA degrees, transfer opportunities, and careers, including professional and personal growth.  Through diverse curriculum and pedagogy emphasizing academic reading, writing, critical thinking and laboratory experie​​​nces, we prepare students to successfully engage a diverse cultural and social environment in the community and workforce.  ​​​​​​​​​​​​​

PROGR​AM ​​​ SLO'S

The Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Women’s Studies is composed of three distinct yet overlapping d​​isciplines. As such we are considered to be three separate programs each with its own program SLO.

Anthropolo​gy ​

Students will be able to recognize and analyze the complex diversity of humans and their ancestors by examining our biological, cultural and evolutionary ad​aptation utilizing the scientific method.

Sociolo​​gy

Students will be able to identify, contrast and apply the methods and theoretica​l perspectives in sociology utilized to explain social interaction and social structure, including the analysis of social problems.

Women's St​udies

Students will be able to utilize a feminist theoretical analysis of social interactions and social structures, explaining the formation, maintenance, and change of socio-cultural identities.
